Description

The resin of the Protium copal tree , known as pom in Mayan or copalli in Nahuatl, has a long history of use by Mesoamerican cultures as a burnt incense for ceremonial and ritual purposes. Known as copal, this resin can be amber-yellow or white. It is often used in rituals as a tool to invigorate, protect, purify or consecrate oneself or an object before beginning a new endeavor as well as to cleanse a ritual space.

It has been traditionally used by the native people of Mexico and Central America as an incense during sweat lodge and Sacred Mushroom ceremonies and to this day the remaining Mayan priests use pom as an offering to their deities, especially when seeking divine favor or protection. Use white copal as a way to delineate and purify your sacred space before a ritual as well as to clear your energetic body of potentially harmful impurities. Copal incense resin should be burnt on a charcoal tablet, either alone or in combination with other herbs and natural resins.
