It has been long known that mugwort, also known as Artemisia vulgaris, has an intense effect on both the vividness of dreams and the dreamer’s ability to remember them after waking. If you are already an avid dreamer, mugwort can propel your dreaming mind into lucidity, helping you becoming aware that you are dreaming. Mugwort has traditionally been used as an herbal smoke, as a tea and in pillows or satchels to aid in dream induction.
Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is a New-World shrub that has a long history of use by shamans in Mexico and Central America as a mild psychoactive and relaxant. Traditionally smoked or brewed into a strong tea, damiana is known to evoke colorful dreams as well as helping in dream recall. Spearmint (Mentha spicata) is helpful in prevent nightmares and fearful imagery during intense and lucid dreaming experiences. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is another well known relaxing tea herb with a long history of being used to help promote a comfortable and restful sleep state. Skullcap (Scutellaria lamiaceae) is a member of the mint family native to North America that is well known for its relaxing and stress relieving properties. This herb helps to quiet the mind and allows your body to drift into a peaceful sleep.
The oneirogenic effects of this herbal blend can vary from person to person, therefore it is important for each individual to experiment with amounts used. While this blend does intensify the vividness of dreams and put dreamers into the right mental state to facilitate lucidity, it is no substitute for learning how to lucid dream and should be used alongside traditional lucid dreaming practices such as reality checks and dreaming journals for best effect.
Brew or burn right before going to sleep as a relaxing bedtime ritual. It’s recommended to use for a few consecutive nights for best effect. Start with 1 tsp of tea infused in a cup of almost boiling water.
